Every year the population express their traditions with the celebration of different activities: an Activity in honor to San Jerónimo, celebrated on September 30, an activity in honor to the Purísima, celebrated on December 8, and the activities in honor the Rosario's Virgen, celebrated on October 5.
The biggest Cultural and Traditional expression, is manifested in the activities of the May Pole, activities that last the whole month of May.
Among some of the activities of the traditional Party of May Pole they are beauty competitions, parades, exhibition of typical foods, etc.
The antecedents of the May Pole is said to be, from around 1870, as a consequence of the colonial imposition of the British, they began to celebrate the parties. The symbolic key element of this party is the Cult to the Fecundity. It is the cult to the tree adorned with fruits, also with candies and bright color tapes, the trunk is a clear allusion to the masculine fertility and the fruits to the feminine fertility.
As same as in the Pacific of Nicaragua, in Bluefields they also celebrate the famous parties of Tatachombo (San Jerónimo). The parties are religious rituals with parades, disguises and dances around the whole city.
The coconut is the fundamental base of a typical coast food, it is good as source of culinary and traditional inspiration to give the characteristic flavor to the coast plates.
Among the main foods they can be mentioned: The Coconut Bread, The Bread Fruit, The Rice & Beans with Coconut, The Rondown, The Paty, The Coco, Cassava and Banana Cake. A next typical food is the Famous Janiecakes that are a kind of a cookies, they are prepared to be distributed in the setups accompanied by the famous Ginger Beer.
The Municipality of Bluefields professes different religions: Catholic, Anglican, Moravian, Baptist, Verbo, etc.
